About Selah Bible
Selah Bible is a lightweight, installable web app for reading the Bible offline. It ships with public-domain translations in four languages — English (King James Version and American Standard Version), French (Bible David Martin, 1744), Spanish (Reina-Valera, 1865) and Portuguese (Bíblia Livre).
There is no server and no account. Scripture is stored on your device as small, independently-loadable chapter files; the app loads only the chapter you open. Once read, a chapter is kept in a local cache, so re-reading works fully offline and instant.
Install: on Android, open the browser menu and choose Add to Home screen / Install app. On iPhone, use Share → Add to Home Screen. The app then launches full-screen like a native app.
FAQ
Does it really work offline?
Yes. After your first visit, the app shell is cached by a service worker. Each chapter you open is also cached, so anything you have read once is available offline forever on that device.
Will it download the whole Bible by itself?
No. Chapters are fetched one at a time, only when you open or search them. Nothing large is ever downloaded silently.
Can I add more languages or translations?
Yes. The app is data-driven: add a translation folder plus an entry in data/manifest.json (see data/README.md) and it appears in the picker automatically — no code changes.
Where is my data?
Only in your browser: preferences, bookmarks, history and consent are kept in localStorage; read chapters in the service-worker cache. Nothing leaves the device.
How do I reset without losing bookmarks?
Settings → Reset settings restores appearance and preferences only. Bookmarks and history have separate, clearly-labelled buttons and are never touched by a reset.
Privacy Policy
In one line: your reading data stays on this device. Scripture is loaded locally and is not uploaded.
What we store locally
- localStorage holds your preferences (theme, text size, chosen translation), your bookmarks, your reading history, your last reading position, and your cookie-consent choice. This data never leaves your browser.
- Service-worker cache holds the app files and the chapter files you have opened, so the app works offline.
Cookies
The app itself sets no cookies. If advertising is ever enabled in the marked placeholder areas, an ad partner such as Google AdSense could set its own cookies on the ad domain; the consent bar lets you allow or decline that. Until then the placeholders load nothing.
Analytics & uploads
None. There is no analytics script, no tracking pixel, no account system and no server endpoint that receives your data.
Removing your data
Use Settings to clear bookmarks or history, or clear the site's data from your browser at any time.
Terms of Use
By using Selah Bible you agree to use it for personal, lawful purposes. The bundled translations are in the public domain and may be freely read, copied and shared; the application code is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind.
You may not represent the app as an official publication of any Bible society or denomination. Trademarks mentioned belong to their owners.
Disclaimer
Scripture texts are historical public-domain editions provided verbatim. A very small number of verses that older editions leave blank (for example Matthew 17:21 in the ASV) are displayed as “—” to keep verse numbering faithful.
The app is offered for devotional study and provides no professional, medical or legal advice.

Because the app is fully offline, we cannot see your usage — which is exactly how it should be.
